Deposit Insurance Basics
WELCOME MESSAGE

Welcome to CDIC Deposit Insurance Basics–an online course designed to increase your understanding of CDIC deposit insurance, the role it plays in protecting the savings of your customers, and the ins and outs of what is covered by CDIC deposit insurance and what is not.

This course will provide you with a broad understanding of CDIC deposit insurance and assist you in effectively responding to customer inquiries.

Member institutions are permitted to make limited representations, either verbally or in writing, about CDIC, their status as a member and insurable deposit products. When serving customers, you can volunteer information about CDIC coverage so long as the discussion is limited to topics contained in the CDIC information brochure.

Please note: This member toolkit is designed to give general information about deposit insurance and should not be relied upon as definitive. The actual deposit insurance coverage provided by CDIC following the failure of a member institution is based on the deposit account records at the failed member institution and is governed by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation Act.

Full and comprehensive information about CDIC deposit insurance is always available, for both you and your customers, at www.cdic.ca or by calling 1-800-461-CDIC (2342).
